  • Good amount of questions came from Engineering Mathematics section. There were around 8-9 questions from this section. The major topics from this section were Matrices, probability, calculus, differential equations. Total weightage of this section in the morning session was of 11 marks, and for the evening session it was of 13 marks

  • Maximum number of questions from the technical session came from Electronic Devices.7 questions came from this section in the morning session and 6 were there in the evening session. The major topics came from this section were PN diodes, FETs, MOSFET’s, semiconductor physics and Zener diodes. Conceptual questions  and numerical type questions were a part of this section.

  • Networks also took a good weightage in the paper. 6 questions were from this section in both the sessions. The major topics covered from this section were Thevenin’s Theorem, Maximum Power Transfer Theorem, nodal and mesh analysis, resonance.

  • 5 questions came in the morning session from Analog Circuits, and 6 were there in the evening session.

  • Good amount of questions were there in the exam from Digital Circuits. 7 questions were there in the morning session and 6 in the evening session. The major topics covered from this section were Boolean algebra, shift registers, Logic gates and D to A converters.

  • More number of 2 marks questions came from Signals and Systems. Total weightage was of 10 marks from this section.

  • There were 5 questions from Control System in both the sessions. The major topics covered from this section were Root Locus, Polar Plot, Compensators, Stability Analysis of systems.

  • There were around 6 questions from Communication Systems in both the sessions and 5 questions came from Electromagnetics in both the sessions. The level of questions came from these sections was moderate.

Overall Analysis of the GATE ECE Exam

  • Good amount of questions came from Networks, Electronic Devices, Analog Circuits and Digital Circuits.

  • Questions in the exam were mainly based on concepts and basics, if one had concentrated on basics, he/she must have attempted well.

  • More number of numerical type questions came this time in the exam. The percentage of multiple choice questions has been reduced as compared to the last year exam. That means more practice and accuracy is required to crack the exam.

  • English and Logical reasoning section was quite easy.
